Joachim Murnig is internationally active as a versatile orchestral musician, chamber musician, soloist, and educator. Since 2011, he has been a permanent member of the renowned Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. In 2014, he founded the internationally successful percussion ensemble Louie’s Cage Percussion, and since 2022, he has served as a professor of percussion at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Institute Oberschützen.

As a soloist, Joachim Murnig has performed with the Tonkünstler Orchestra, among others, and has appeared at prestigious festivals such as the Grafenegg Festival. As a chamber musician, he regularly performs in prominent concert halls such as the Musikverein Vienna and the Konzerthaus Vienna. Additionally, he is a guest orchestral musician with ensembles such as the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra, the RSO Vienna, the Klangforum Wien, and many other distinguished ensembles.

His artistic work, masterclasses, and performances have brought him together with outstanding musical personalities such as Peter Sadlo, Christoph Sietzen, Kai Strobel, Evelyn Glennie, Momoko Kamiya, and many others.

The composers Dominik Giesriegl, Georg Schenk and Matthias Werner dedicated solo pieces for percussion to Joachim Murnig. With the Klangforum Wien, the Jess-Trio-Wien and the Friedrich Lux Quartet, he premiered contemporary chamber music by composers including Friedrich Cerha, Rainer Bischof and Brad Lubman. He has participated in CD recordings with the Federspiel wind ensemble, the Academia Allegro Vivo and the Louie's Cage Percussion ensemble.

Since October 2022, Joachim Murnig has been teaching percussion instruments at the Oberschützen Institute of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He composes solo, chamber music and teaching literature for percussion.
